Joanna Barbera Releases “Tempt Me”

Austin, TX, based singer-songwriter and instrumentalist Joanna Barbera releases “Tempt Me” for free download as the first single off her forthcoming sophomore album Forget to be released in June 2013.

With a musical foundation heavily rooted in the world of folk, Barbera explores darker territory with Forget, presenting the perfect collision of solid rock and power prose. Her sophomore effort blends layers of sounds over dense, textured instrumentals that has taken Barbera in a new direction from her debut album Carnival Beginning. Where Carnival was upbeat and light, Forget is dark and fearless tackling issues of loss, moving on and leaving the past behind. She describes the songs on the record as her way of finding a new sense of home and security.

Unsigned and untamed by the orthodoxy of a label, Barbera is a self-made artist that bares her soul in pursuit of a dream that is quickly becoming a reality. With the release of Carnival Beginning, Joanna found herself touring nationally and performed in such famed venues including the Living Room (New York City), Antone’s (Austin, TX), Ani DiFranco’s the Ninth Ward at Babeville (Buffalo, NY) and the Hotel Café (Los Angeles, CA). Barbera has shared the stage with Sharon Van Etten, Mindy Smith, Melissa Ferrick, and Hamell on Trial, Quiet Company and The Tontons.

Her rustic, heart-bleeding sound has been compared to the likes of Cat Power, Elliot Smith, and Bruce Springsteen, but there is no question that her voice, music and artistry are uniquely her own. Forget is due for national release in June of this year with release shows in Austin, New York City and San Francisco.
