Austin based psychedelic-folk project The Dan Ryan just debuted “Hold
Down” off new album The Dan Ryan LP, out May 27 via Cosmic Dreamer
Music. This Austin-via-Chicago passion project of musician Nathan Dixey
will play an album release show on May 24, at Cheer Up Charlies in
Austin.
“Hold Down” opens with a slow, almost ambient riff being played on what sounds like a harpsichord, then goes quickly into a trippy track that sounds like it was ripped from the 1960’s. Dixey’s muffled voice hums over the instrumental to create something truly groovy. “Hold Down” is just one of the singles on The Dan Ryan’s debut album that sounds as though it was plucked out of a late-era Beatles album.
Formed in 2011 as a side project in Lawrence, KS, The Dan Ryan is now based in Austin, TX, where the debut LP was home-recorded between December 2013 to July 2014. Psychedelic and deeply personal, these songs bear a chapter of change and evoke the fleeting nature of one’s perspective on life. The Dan Ryan LP will also be the first release from new California based record label Cosmic Dreamer Music, a label whose name fits The Dan Ryan’s aesthetic perfectly.
Though not a native Austin-ite in the classical sense, Nathan Dixey has called Austin’s music scene home for the past few years. The Dan Ryan will play an album release show at local Austin favorite Cheer Up Charlies, located at 900 Red River Street, on May 24th at 7:00 PM. Also hitting the stage will be Thor & Friends and Dixey’s other band, Hospital Ships.
