Her new effort, "For Blood And Wine" was produced by Parasol with added production by Mike McCarthy (Spoon, Patty Griffin) and Mark Pistel (Hercules and Love Affair, Meat Beat Manifesto). The thirteen-track album promises the same characterstic rich, cinematic sound but takes a slight turn stylistically as Parasol's artistry evolves.
"For Blood and Wine" is witty, darkly romantic and elegant. It reflects Parasol's view of life: "mostly sad, but with real moments of joy and hope." Says Parasol: " 'For Blood and Wine' is a true-life narrative depicting the progress and downward spiral of a rake, who in this case is female and me. While it may conjure imagery of the Barbary Coast and smoke-filled cabarets, it may also make you think of the Doors or Serge Gainsbourg with it’s heavy use of organ and piano as well as horns."
Rykarda Parasol plays "rock noir" that evokes moody atmospheres and gin-drenched romanticism. Aptly describing the sound as underhanded and white-collar criminal, her music draws comparisons to Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Nico and the Velvet Underground, Black Heart Procession, and Johnny Cash. The songs tell stories of bad deeds and betrayed loves with stark simplicity.
In celebration of the new release, Parasol has scheduled two very special performances in San Francisco and Los Angeles. A New York date to follow.
